Deploying Door and Hardware Solutions to Build Better Cities

The theme for this year’s AIA Conference on Architecture is “Blueprint for Better Cities.” Door Opening Solutions can have a profound effect on our buildings, and on our cities, and “building better” is why the folks at ASSA ABLOY go to work every day.

We hope you’ll visit our Decorative Opening Solutions Mobile Showroom at booth #1207 on the Expo floor to see how ASSA ABLOY’s door and hardware solutions are contributing to the life safety, security, energy efficiency, sustainability, resilience and positive experiences and outcomes of occupants in buildings across the U.S.

Materials
Every material has an impact, and for that reason, sustainability and materials transparency are guiding principles for ASSA ABLOY’s design and manufacturing teams. To date, ASSA ABLOY has secured more than 90 Environmental Product Declarations, 15 Health Product Declarations, and more than 20 Declare Labels. All of these declarations have been third-party certified.

Energy & Carbon
Did you know that at ASSA ABLOY’s manufacturing site in Berlin, CT, a solar field generates more than 50 percent of the energy required to power the site? Did you know we can provide an energy efficient door opening with an operable U-value of .29, the most efficient in the market today? ALL TRUE!

Energy efficiency is inherent not only to the products we manufacture, but to the way those products reduce energy draw, and/or generate their own energy.

The Norton 5800 Series ADAEZ Low Energy Operator, for example, is one of the world’s only regenerative power door operators. And our EcoSuite products – including EcoFlex™ Electrified Mortise Locks, EcoPower™ Power Supplies, EcoMag® Magnalock, and EcoFlex™ Electrified Exit Trim – can reduce energy consumption at a door opening by up to 99%.

Resilience
Door Openings are critical components in buildings designed to provide occupants with shelter from attack and natural disasters. ASSA ABLOY offers Door Opening Solutions that are tested and rated to withstand bomb and ballistic attacks and hurricane and tornado events.

 Design & Health

My colleague, Amy Vigneux is ASSA ABLOY’s Director of Sustainability, and she’ll be on site during the Expo to talk about how responsibly manufactured Door Opening Solutions can increase natural daylight, improve acoustics, contribute to the WELL Building Standard, and to our general sense of well-being.

Visit our Mobile Showroom at booth #1207 to see these solutions and learn more.
