I’ve been wondering: who typically selects the commercial doors and hardware for the projects you’re working on? I really want to know. In fact, I’ve been asking this question in the Architectural Practices and End User Organizations I’ve visited across the U.S.

Based on the responses I’ve gotten, I can tell you who’s not typically selecting commercial doors and hardware: Designers.

The use of color in healthcare settings has evolved over the last five years, influenced by a variety of factors, including global design trends, consumer research, patient satisfaction studies and market drivers from other segments. When it comes to healthcare facilities, we’re seeing less of the stereotypical institutional colors, and more healthcare systems that are influenced by residential design, as well as taking color cues from the hospitality and commercial markets.

Day two of NeoCon East 2017 is here and I was finally able to sneak away from our ASSA ABLOY Mobile Showroom to cruise the show floor. I blogged previously about the importance of NeoCon East as a means for collaborating and sharing ideas with our architectural and interior design “inspirers.” But there are LOTS of ways to be inspired at this show, and that includes by other manufacturers.  Great as it is to be ASSA ABLOY, it’s not all about us!

Looking back on the first day of NeoCon East 2017, my biggest takeaway is a feeling of overwhelming gratitude to the building, design and construction professionals who stopped by the ASSA ABLOY Mobile Showroom.

Do Architects Learn Enough About Construction and Materials?

We all know great design when we experience it. Good building design is functional, durable, sustainable and pleasing to the eye. But great design can't exist without deliberate intent, careful planning, and thoughtful implementation.
